Hello

Looking for some advise. I am at present designing my own website template for the first time and am nearly there...I hope :)

Question for the forum...does anyone test for IE5 or IE5.5 still, as the site goes wonky (technical term ;) ) on these. Looks pretty ok on all the rest...ie7, ie8, firefox and safari. Also works on OS linux, windows, mac and bsd etc. Am using browsershots.org to test.

On the whole the site is CSS based.

Thanks in advance for comments and advise. :)

:hmm: as a footnote of sorts, what browsers would be recommended to test on. Thanks

Frankly, if it works across all those browsers and OSs, I'd forget about IE5.... It's a bit of a dinosaur now

Thought as much but thought I would check :) experience is a great thing when you have it :)

Simple answer would be a resounding No! Saying that I haven't even tested it on a mobile but am sure it won't. I can live with that for the first attempt.

Thanks for the input Doc.

Garn... that's just a nice way of saying I'm an old scrote ;)

I forgot to mention Opera - I hear that's used a bit too.

Take a look here: http://www.w3schools...wsers_stats.asp. Don't know its accuracy, but it says IE5 has only 1% share in April, 2008.

Never Doc - I have too many grey hairs myself to throwing stones in greenhouses as they say, plus I don't think I have the strength anymore ;) It looks fine in Opera (thanks) and Seamonkey, what a great name for a browser :) Safari has one issue but will sort that I am sure.

Thanks Lwyau - did check out that site - one of my favourites for understanding code. Thought I would just check on the forum for hands on experience, as you rightly point out and I think they say the same themselves about the accuracy of their data.

Still have one small problem with IE6 but is a lot better than it was. Trying not to use hacks to get around it and have most sorted out bar a wee issue with the footer but am getting there.

Thanks for the input and responses.

Actually Lwyau here is a link for the test homepage if you would care to have a look. Will delete after you have a look. Feedback welcome - most links go back to original site.

Thanks Mike, have you tried browsershots.org - save you loading Safari. Not the quickest but handy none the less.

Just found a site that may be of interest to folks testing their websites for mobile phones:

Hmm.. interesting. I think I'd better have a disclaimer on my sites then: "Not optimized for mobile phones" :ehheh:
